Travel in the footsteps of Karen Blixon and Earnest Hemmingway on a very special Kenyan big game safari!

The goal of this journey is to see as many wild animals as possible and make a cultural connection with the amazingly diverse populations that comprise modern Kenya. We have carefully devised your safari so that you will visit the three greatest landscapes for viewing wildlife in East Africa: the Masai Mara (the northern continuation of the Serengeti and the largest game reserve in Kenya), Tsavo West (beloved by Hemmingway and Teddy Roosevelt and home to Kenya's largest concentration of wild elephants) and the Ngorongoro Crater of Tanzania – without a doubt the single most famous destination in East Africa.

During your journey you will also enjoy special meetings and lectures with an assortment of interesting local personalities including Daniel Woodley, the Senior Warden of Tsavo West National Park, Alex Kamau of Global Roots and Mike Korchinsky, the founder of Wildlife Works.

These gentlemen will help you to understand the complicated issues behind conserving the flora and fauna of East Africa.Even though we would like you also to spend a little time with the local people in the areas we visit, we will make sure that you have the very best accommodations and services. Our leader for this trip is Alex Kamau, a professional guide, poacher hunter (the unlicensed slaughter of all large game in Kenya is illegal) and desnaring agent with the Kenyan Wildlife Service (KWS). Alex is also the Africa manager for Global Roots (globalroots.org) and he has been working with M&G co-founder Rick Montgomery since 2003 on a number of ecological and humanitarian

projects in the wild region of Tsavo.

July 7: Fly from the USA to Nairobi

July 8: Arrive in Nairobi (this is day 1) - We will enjoy a welcome reception tonight in a hotel that was frequented by Earnest Hemmingway and other famous travelers in the golden age of safari-based tourism.

July 9: Nairobi/Masai Mara - We will leave after lunch for a four-hour drive to our lodge inside the Masai Mara. We sleep early tonight to take advantage of an early morning game drive tomorrow. Hopefully we will witness a lion or cheetah on the prowl.

July 10: Masai Mara - We will enjoy two game drives today as well as an intriguing introduction to the Masai people. We will finish the day with a Hemmingway Sundowner.

July 11: Masai Mara/Tsavo West National Park - This morning you can either take part in an optional game drive or simply spend the morning resting. It is a long drive to Tsavo West – one of Kenya’s foremost national parks and home to a vibrant population of wild African Elephants.

July 12: Tsavo West - Today we will visit the orphanage of our friend Rosina. If you opt to take part in our service program you can teach English and/or basic computer skills to Rosina's orphans or help Alex Kamau in the field on a desnaring mission.

July 13: Tsavo West - Today we will meet with the Senior Warden of Tsavo West National Park in his park headquarters. The service portion of our trip will conclude this afternoon when we visit with the Matulani, a Tsavo tribe that we are working with to build a community owned safari camp. You will be welcomed by the Matulani with more than ten tribal dances and a great feast that we will provide.

July 14: Tsavo West to Arusha, Tanzania - Today we will cross over into Tanzania by way of Tavete and continue to Arusha where we will enjoy the amenities of a modern hotel and the finest Indian food in East Africa.

July 15: Ngorongoro Crater - We will spend two days exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unbroken and unflooded volcanic caldera.

July 16: Ngorongoro Crater/Arusha - The Ngorongoro Crater is so massive that its 25,000 large animals make an annual migration across the caldera. The crater boasts the world's densest population of lions!

July 17: Karen - We will spend our last night at a private resort in Karen, the upscale neighborhood of Nairobi named after Karen Blixon, author of Out of Africa.
